As osteopaths at the Andromeda Center for Osteopathy, we regularly have the privilege of supporting these children. No one should have to live with pain, especially not children. They should be able to enjoy life unhindered by pain, but unfortunately, this article highlights the reality.
We agree with the statement that there is a relationship between social stress experienced by a child and abdominal pain, such as that caused by bullying at school.
If the abdominal pain is also linked to bloating and diarrhea, we observe that other structures in the abdomen may also play a role.
These organs frequently appear to be burdened by biochemical stressors such as bacteria, viruses, or fungi; however, abdominal trauma—such as falling off a bicycle with the handlebars hitting the stomach—can also have a particularly negative impact on the abdomen.
In other words, we agree with the words of Dr. Benninga, but as osteopaths, we would like to be involved in the approach to treating this complaint. Allow us, and the children, this success.
