Many people believe that you prevent complaints by being treated on a monthly basis.
Things go well… until suddenly they go wrong again.
As an osteopath, I am focused on supporting and optimizing the body’s self-healing capacity as effectively as possible. I aim to achieve this with as few treatments as possible, without continuing treatment unnecessarily.
In my view, once the underlying cause has been restored, it is not necessary to continue treatment. I would rather see a patient return at the moment complaints flare up again. Therefore, I generally do not schedule ‘maintenance treatments’. Instead, I might opt for an evaluation moment, or have someone return after three months to assess whether the result is lasting.
I often get the question: “Things are going well now, but will the complaint stay away?” The honest answer? Sometimes, yes. But you can also have bad luck. A fall, a hard impact, severe (emotional) stress, or exposure to certain (bio)chemical substances can cause complaints to return.
But the difference lies in how your body handles it — and how well it is able to restore itself once again.
