Another seemingly innocent problem. Of course, it is not life-threatening, but for a child who would love to go to camp or stay over at her cousin’s house, it is a significant social issue. This is aside from the inconvenience for the parents, which they often find the least bothersome. No, the real issue is that their daughter cannot participate in everything or experiences a lot of stress beforehand when she wants to try again.
On August 25, I saw a 9-year-old girl with this condition. Things went well in the past, but something happened along the way that left her with this complaint.
My examination revealed that there is nothing wrong with the bladder or the urinary tract in general as an organ. In my opinion, the problem lies within the nervous system. It concerns the control of the bladder. At night, something happens that causes the girl to wet herself again. Out of fear?
Could it be that she regularly experiences a fearful moment, subconsciously, in her sleep?
So, I asked the mother again if she could remember a time when her daughter was severely startled or experienced a terrifying moment. I suspected she was 6 years old at the time.
The mother was able to recall two incidents. The first involved a moment during a holiday in Hungary, where the patient ran through a glass door at full speed, resulting in glass shards all over her body and a hospital visit to have the splinters removed.
Furthermore, at that same age, the patient also got stuck in a toilet once. Her mother could not open the door from the outside either, and the patient became extremely panicked.
I will do my very best again, because this girl deserves it.
