Headache, concentration disorder, impaired sensory processing, fatigue

The eye is a beautiful and complex anatomical structure.
It is precisely this complexity that makes it interesting for the osteopath: consider the many small muscles, the involved cranial nerves, and the blood vessels that pass through the eye socket.

An important, central structure in this regard is the Sphenoid bone (os sphenoidale).
This bone forms the back of the eye socket and serves as the passage for several cranial nerves and blood vessels that control and nourish the eye.

Recently, I saw a young woman with persistent complaints around the eye socket:
• pressure and pain during computer work
• severe fatigue
• becoming easily overstimulated

During my examination, the enormous tension at the level of the sphenoid bone and the surrounding connective tissue structures was particularly striking.
A finding that, unfortunately, I cannot make objective for the patient at that moment.
However, the classic after-effects of the very mild treatment—severe dizziness and headache for three days—followed by a significant reduction in complaints, gave both me and the patient the confidence that we are on the right track.
And importantly: we were able to explain the complaints.
As a child, she had already sustained a serious injury: a fall from a climbing frame onto her face, after which her vision was temporarily completely disrupted.

She has been experiencing the complaints again for three years. Coincidence? Around that time, she had a significant fall while skiing—a clear trigger that reactivated an old vulnerability.
