On November 25, 2025, we encountered an article in the Eindhovens Dagblad. This immediately caught our attention. Not only because this deserves our attention as an important medical subject, but also because we, as osteopaths, regularly see patients with these complaints during our appointments.

Inflammations in and around the heart (pericarditis and myocarditis) and cardiac arrhythmias especially deserve our attention and treatment. Regarding the first two, we read that viruses can play a role. In osteopathy, when a complaint arises, we always take into account both the negative impact of a virus, for example, and the “failure” of the immune system. The strength of the immune system is determined on the one hand by the composition of the immune cells, but also by the number of cells present at a specific time in a specific place where the viruses attempt to strike. The required number of immune cells can be hindered by excessive tension in the connective tissue; in the case mentioned above, in the connective tissue behind the sternum.
This happens to be exactly the structure that the osteopath is extremely interested in and would like to apply their recovery techniques to.

We do not claim to be able to solve everything, as sometimes the damage is already too extensive, but particularly if a problem recurs, as indicated in point 3, I would recommend giving an osteopath a chance.
