But there may be more to it.

This was also the case with a 35-year-old woman who was training intensively for a marathon in the Swiss Alps. She developed pain in her right hip and thigh and noticed that her right foot would occasionally swell.

During my assessment, what stood out most was a pronounced tension in the deeper connective tissue structures of the upper cervical region. This finding prompted me to look beyond her recent training load and explore her medical history.

But where did this tension come from?

At the age of 12, she had suffered a serious fall forwards, landing directly on her face. A significant trauma, but one that had occurred more than twenty years earlier.

And this often raises another interesting question: Why are these symptoms appearing now? What has changed that might explain why the body is no longer able to compensate sufficiently?

Something else emerged from her history. Shortly before her symptoms began, she had tripped over a branch while running and fallen forwards again.

A recent fall and a significant trauma from the past. Of course, we cannot say with certainty whether these events are connected to each other or to her current symptoms. However, based on my clinical experience, I do see a possible connection.

During the first treatment, I focused on the connective tissue structures in the upper cervical region.

I saw her again two weeks later. By then, she was able to train pain-free again.

What do I find particularly interesting about this case?

The fact that symptoms developing during a period of intensive training are not necessarily caused by overuse alone.

It is often worth looking beyond the current training load. Sometimes, a recent event appears to be the final trigger that leads to symptoms developing, when the body can no longer compensate sufficiently.

That is why, when assessing a sports injury, I look not only at the area where the pain is experienced, but also at the patient’s history and ask myself: Why has this particular problem developed at this particular moment?

As an osteopath, my assessment goes beyond the musculoskeletal system. I consider the body as a whole, including the central nervous system.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” row_position_desktop=”default” row_position_tablet=”inherit” row_position_phone=”inherit” overflow=”visible” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” flex_gap_desktop=”10px” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default”…

[18

post-3898","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-publicaties-en
["GET
