People are often very attached to their animals. Whether it concerns livestock farmers or private individuals with dogs, cats, or rabbits \u2014 animals play an important role in daily life for many people. However, as with so many things, there can also be less visible disadvantages involved, especially when animals are ill or carriers of certain infections. <\/p>\n
On June 6, I saw a young woman of 30 who had been struggling with chronic respiratory infections for years. Sometimes she had an infection as often as four times a year, each time requiring antibiotics. <\/p>\n
During my examination, the trachea emerged as the most important structure involved. According to my findings, there was chronic irritation of the inner wall of the trachea. I suspected that this irritation had once been caused by inhaling a biochemical substance, probably around the age of twenty. <\/p>\n
When I asked her about this, the patient told me that she had worked in a pet shop for a year at that age. It later turned out that this shop was closed due to the illegal trade of exotic animals. Among other things, Arctic foxes and special cat species from distant countries were reportedly traded for collectors in the Middle East. <\/p>\n
It is quite possible that these animals carried all kinds of pathogens. Furthermore, they were likely not medically screened before coming into contact with humans. <\/p>\n
I treated the patient three times. Her body reacted remarkably strongly, especially after the first treatment: she had to cough much more than usual. We sometimes see these types of reactions when the body begins to clear things out and attempts to find balance again. <\/p>\n
After three treatments, things were clearly better. In consultation, we then decided to monitor the situation for a while and re-evaluate after four months. <\/p>\n
These types of stories show that chronic complaints sometimes have a cause that originated years earlier and which the person no longer immediately considers.
