The complaints can be located on the inside, outside, front, or back of the ankle. They often involve pain, swelling, stiffness, or a sense of instability during movement.  <\/p>\n<p>The ankle forms an important connection between the leg and the foot. As a result, this joint has to process a lot of load daily. When muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, or joints function less effectively, complaints can arise. An abnormal walking pattern, prolonged standing during work, or intensive sports load can cause complaints to arise or persist. <\/p>\n<p>Reduced strength of the tibial muscle, an abnormal foot position, or limited mobility of surrounding joints can also contribute to ankle pain.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Stress and tension<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Stress is often not directly linked to ankle complaints. However, long-term tension can affect the body&#8217;s ability to recover. <\/p>\n<p>When muscles are constantly under tension, the way a person moves often changes. This can create extra load on joints, tendons, and muscles around the ankle. <\/p>\n<h3><b>Old injuries or surgeries<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Many people who come to our practice have had a previous ankle injury. An old sprain sometimes seems fully recovered but can still affect the stability of the ankle joint. <\/p>\n<p>Scar tissue after surgery can also cause loss of movement.
